Spoilt dog test :)

I saw this challenge on TikTok and my family, friends and I are always joking that Maya is the most spoilt puppy ever so I thought I would go through these questions and actually see how spoilt she is 🙂

• They’re allowed on the couch or bed? She most definitely is 🙂

• Do you give them food off your plate? This one we actually don’t do for many reasons but mostly a) to stop her begging at the table and also she has a very sensitive stomach but she does occasionally get bits of chicken or steak in her bowl if we have extra 🙂
• They have a toy box- She actually has two…. one downstairs for when we’re watching tv of an evening and one in my bedroom so that she can play when she gets left at home if we’re out 🙂

• They sleep on your bed at night- She does occasionally- I only have a single bed so theres not really enough space but occasionally I will wake up to find her on the end of the bed.
• They’ve had professional photos taken- I don’t actually think she has had professional photos taken 🙂
• They get Christmas and birthday presents- She does in fact get Christmas and Birthday presents which is really fun and she absolutely loves them 🙂 She actually opens them herself which is so funny 🙂

• Humans greet them first before they greet other humans- 100%!!
• They go on holiday with you- She has been on holiday with us before actually! When we went to our family caravan last summer we took her with us and we had so much fun 🙂

• They have clothes/accessories- She has a few Christmas and Halloween outfits which are pretty cool

A Very Puppy Filled Weekend 😊

On Saturday 12th of March I went round to my Aunts house in the afternoon to meet her 4 week old puppies! They were absolutely gorgeous and beautiful and so cute so I thought I would show you guys ❤️ I only managed to get photos while they were sleeping because otherwise they were running around like lunatics!

My aunt then dropped me home with one of her dogs in the car Luna who I have looked after before and she is gorgeous so I looked after her for the afternoon/evening 😊

On the Sunday we then had a BBQ cooked by my friend Barghavi who was round for the weekend and my aunt popped round with some of her agility stuff so that we could work together on some agility 😊 I’m relatively new to agility training but my aunt has trained agility dogs for a while so was teaching me the basics and practising with her dog Mitch who so happens to be Maya’s dad and also the dad to the 4 week old puppies!

Blogmas Day 19: Mayas 2nd Christmas :)

Last year I absolutely spoint Maya for her first ever Christmas and this year is no different! I feel like if anything I have gone even more overboard this year!! I have picked up lots and lots of presents for her from lots of different places: Poundland, Time 4 Pets, Pets at Home, Poundland, local Garden centres and a shop called Jack Frost which has loads of dog toys, food and coats 🙂 Instead of jumpers for Maya I usually end up buying her Christmas bandanas which go round her collar however I always put her in the one Christmas jumper that we have that we bought for our old dog Ellie ❤ ❤ ❤ She has a little reindeer on her collar which she has for the entire month of December and this year I bought her a personalised gift bag to hold all of her toys and of course she has an advent calendar again which she absolutely loves although I think she wishes she could eat all of the treats in one go 🙂

July-ving and thriving Day 21: Dog Training

Maya is now 18 months old which is crazy as it feels like only yesterday she was a tiny puppy and one of the things that I have absolutely loved doing with her is training 🙂 She is a really well behaved dog when she wants to be and one of my goals for the month is to improve my dog training so I have compiled some of the training videos that I have of Maya 🙂

Sit, Down and Stand

 

Paw– This is one that I absolutely love and definitely comes in handy when trying to put on her harness as you can just ask for her paw in order to slip the harness on 🙂

 

Bed – This is a relatively new one for Maya and I think she has come on leaps and bounds since we first started learning it 🙂 She can now go to her bed from about 6 steps away otherwise she gets distracted but we’re getting there 🙂

Hold – This is a new trick that she has been learning where she has to hold an object in her mouth which I’m hoping I will be able to expand into a fetch/retrieve 🙂

Stay- Maya can stand, sit and down stay and I would say stand stay is her worst one because we have only just started learning it however with a down stay she will stay there for around 4 minutes without moving 🙂

Leave– Maya is not very food orientated so leaving food isn’t too much of a chore for her however making her leave a toy in the middle of a game is a struggle because she is always wanting to play!

Touch– I use touch for Maya to mean that she has to touch her nose to my hand and Maya learnt touch relatively early on and it has come in really handy with learning heel-work 🙂

Twist + Spin- Twist and spin was again something Maya learnt relatively early on pretty much straight after Sit and Down and it has always been one of my favourites 🙂 I usually do it near the start of a training session to get her excited and motivated 🙂

 

Maya also knows Middle where she will run to the middle of your legs, heel-work + close where she will stay close to you while you walk or go to the heel-work position and is learning weave where she will weave in-between your legs and tunnel where she goes through an agility tunnel 🙂

Working from home with a puppy!

Over the past week I have been working from home due to the current situation so I thought I would make a blog post/photo stream of how its been the past week working from home with a 1 year old Collie for company 😛 She has a lot of energy and is also very clingy so its been a lot of fun 🙂

Mayas First Birthday :)

On the 2nd of February 2020 my dog Maya turned 1 so I thought I would throw her a little party to celebrate 😊 My friend Barghavi bought round a balloon and I had wrapped up loads of new toys and treats for her which she thoroughly enjoyed opening 😂 I also made her a liver cake which she absolutely loves and took her out for a long walk 😊

Furry Friend Tag- Maya Updated :)

When we first got Maya I did a Furry Friend Tag which can be found here but I thought it might be fun to update it since we’ve now had her for 7 months so have gotten to know her personality a bit better 🙂

1. How old is your pet? She’s 9 months 🙂
2. When is your pets birthday? 2nd of February 🙂
3. What is your pets’ favorite food? She has Millies and Wolfheart dry food but her favourite treats are Liver Cake or Chicken 🙂 I gave her steak a little while ago as well and she absolutely loved it!
4. What is your pet’s favorite game? Either fetch or tug 🙂 She loves pretty much any game as she is a Border Collie so has bundles of energy!
5. What is your favorite thing to do together? She always jumps up on my bed when she wakes up for cuddles before going downstairs for her breakfast 🙂
6. Do you go outdoors? If yes, where is your favorite place to go together? I always take her round the block for the morning but my favourite place to take her is Brighton because she absolutely loves the beach 🙂 She hates the sea and water but loves running on the stones and walking around the lanes 🙂
7. What is a bad habit that your pet has? She always barks when someone knocks on the door 🙂 Its very funny because whenever I take her out for a walk and forget my keys even if we are standing outside the door and knock if she hears the doorbell she will bark even if we are standing outside waiting to be let in!
8. What is the naughtiest thing your pet has ever done? She pulled one of my posters off my wall and shredded it!
9. What is the funniest memory involving your pet? We bought her a ball that moves on its own and she went absolutely mental running in circles barking at it! Or when I arrived home from being in London all day when she was young and she went absolutely mental saying hello and then did a double take because my friend had come back with me and she was standing off to the side so Maya hadn’t noticed her- I’ve never seen a dog do a double take before it was very funny!
10. What is the best memory involving your pet? Taking her to Brighton for the first time 🙂
11. What is the hardest thing about being a pet owner? Leaving her! I always feel guilty whenver we have to go out and leave her for a little while but she’s never left for long and always has lots of play and walks beforehand to tire her out!
12. What is the most rewarding thing about being a pet owner? All of the love that she has for all of us 🙂 She just wants to have cuddles and play 🙂
13. Does your pet have a nickname and what is it? Puppy, Baba, MyMy, PupPup and Baby 🙂
14. Have you ever taught your pet any tricks if so, what? Sit, Down, Twist, Spin, Middle where she will sit inbetween your legs, Wait, Stay, Leave and Touch where she touches her nose to your hand and shes getting really good at recall and heelwork 🙂 I am trying to teach her paw and to hold her toy at the moment 🙂

2. How did you come up with the name, does it have any specific significance?- It was actually my mum who came up with the name Maya 🙂 We were brainstorming names and came up with Darcy, Maya or Esme and eventually decided on Maya 🙂

5. What breed is your pet? She’s a Border Collie 🙂

7. How did you get your pet? One of my Aunts dogs had puppies and we kept going round to see them and fell in love with Maya 🙂

Meet Maya 😊

On the 2nd of February our family dog Ellie passed away- she had been in our lives for 14.5 years and she was such an amazing dog that no dog will ever take her place in our hearts ❤️❤️ That being said that very night my Aunts dog Emmy had 7 gorgeous healthy puppies- 5 girls and 2 boys 😊

We went round to my aunts a few times over the coming weeks to visit the puppies and fell in love with one of the puppies called Wave who had a crinkly tail and seemed really calm and sweet 💕

On the 29th of March we went to pick her up from my Aunts house and bring her home- she howled the whole way back to our house!! When she actually got inside she walked around like she owned the place and was soon playing and running around 😊 She’s still not a fan of the car but we’re slowly but surely building it up and she seems to be getting used to it 😊

I then went away for the weekend but she had lots of adventures such as going to the garden centre, meeting my mum’s friends dog Maisie and howling all through the night so my dad ended up sleeping on the floor with her!

She’s still learning and settling in but she’s already learning her name, how to sit and that fingers and toes are not chew toys 😂 She’s currently asleep on my lap but seems to be waking up so I’ll finish up by saying Maya- welcome to the Thoroughgood family ❤️

I’ll be sure to update you guys on how she’s settling in and will probably do a Pet Tag fairly soon ❤️

Lions and tigers and bears- OH MY!

As many of you will already know I am a huge animal lover so on the 9th of September my family and I went to Whipsnade Zoo for the day which is a part of the ZSL family. I have been once before and it was so lovely, the zoo is huge and this time I got to see the baby tigers which were only a few months old!! I thought I would show you guys some of the photos that I took while I was where 🙂
