My favourite lyrics and songs from Wicked :)

My favourite lyrics and songs from Wicked :)

On the 23rd of September I went to see Wicked with Barghavi (who you guys will have already heard a lot about) and I absolutely LOVED it 🙂 I have seen Wicked before and it was actually the first show that I remember sitting in the audience just absolutely enthralled and it definitely sparked my love of musical theatre 🙂 Its been quite a few years since I saw the show last and I loved it just as much as the first time 🙂 I have done quite a few posts about some of my favourite songs and lyrics from musicals but I thought I would write down some of my favourite lyrics and songs from this show 🙂

Some of my favourite songs:

  • The Wizard and I
  • What is this feeling?
  • Popular
  • Defying Gravity
  • I’m Not That Girl
  • As Long As You’re Mine
  • No Good Deed
  • For Good
  • One Short Day

Some of my favourite lyrics:

  • This weird quirk I’ve tried to suppress or hide, Is a talent that could help me meet the Wizard, If I make good, So I’ll make good- The Wizard and I
  • For you see, my room-mate is………..Unusually and exceedingly peculiar And altogether quite impossible to describe……………..Blonde- What is this Feeling
  • Let’s just say, I loathe it all! Every little trait, however small, Makes my very flesh begin to crawl- What is this Feeling
  • Life’s more painless….. For the brainless……Why think too hard?……When it’s so soothing…….Dancing through life- Dancing through Life
  • Elphie, now that we’re friends, I’ve decided to make you my new project! …….You really don’t have to do that………..I know, that’s what makes me so nice!- Popular
  • Celebrated heads of state, Or specially great communicators!……..Did they have brains or knowledge?…….Don’t make me laugh! They were popular!- Popular
  • Too long I’ve been afraid of……..Losing love I guess I’ve lost…….Well, if that’s love…….. It comes at much too high a cost!- Defying Gravity ]
  • Every so often we long to steal…….To the land of what-might-have-been…….But that doesn’t soften the ache we feel…… When reality sets back in- I’m Not That Girl
  • Was I really seeking good…..Or just seeking attention?……..Is that all good deeds are, When looked at with an ice-cold eye?- No Good Deed
  • Let all Oz be agreed, I’m wicked through and through…….Since I can not succeed, Fiyero, saving you…….I promise no good deed, Will I attempt to do again- No Good Deed
  • There are wonders like I’ve never seen……It’s all grand…….And it’s all greenI think we’ve found the place where we belong!- One Short Day

My favourite songs and lyrics from The Prince of Egypt :)

On the 8th of September I went to see The Prince of Egypt with my friend Hannah which was so so amazing!! This was my second time seeing the show and it was so nice to be back in a theatre and see a show and I absolutely loved it 🙂 I have done quite a few posts about some of my favourite songs and lyrics from musicals but I thought I would write down some of my favourite lyrics and songs from this show 🙂

Some of my favourite songs:

  • Deliver Us
  • Footprints on the Sand
  • Dance To The Day
  • In a Million Years
  • Through Heavens Eyes
  • Always on Your Side
  • Heartless
  • Faster

Some of my favourite lyrics:

  • Sleep and remember my last lullaby, So I’ll be with you when you dream- Deliver Us
  • Footprints on the sand, Ripples on the river Wispy drifting clouds, That blow across the desert sky- Footprints on the Sand
  • But maybe just to leave things, A little changed from when I came- Footprints on the sand
  • But now, I will dance But my dance will be only for me, I dance to the day, I am free- Dance To The Day
  • And if you should ask how soon I think this feeling disappears, Never in a million years- In A Million Years
  • A single thread in a tapestry, Though its color brightly shines, Can never see its purpose, In the pattern of the grand design- Through Heavens Eyes
  • So how do you measure the worth of a man, In wealth or strength or size?- Through Heavens Eyes
  • To pick me up, restore my purpose and my pride, When you were always at my side- Always On Your Side
  • Scattering melons and olives and baskets, And making a small disaster, No time to turn and look back at the damage we’ve done, We’ve got to go faster- Faster

July-ving and thriving Day 3: Bad-ass Female musical theatre characters :)

July-ving and thriving Day 3: Bad-ass Female musical theatre characters :)

Today on Disney Plus a film of the original broadway cast performing Hamilton is being released which I am so excited for and have been since I found out 🙂 One of the many things I love about Hamilton is the strong female characters so I thought for todays post I would write about some of my favourite female characters in musical theatre focusing on Lin Manuels work and a few more 🙂

  1. Angelica Schuyler from Hamilton: Two of my favourite songs from Hamilton are Satisfied and The Schuyler sisters as they are sassy and fun but also show just how strong and amazing these sisters truly are 🙂 Angelica is my favourite Schuyler sister because she gives up her own happiness for her sisters and some of my favourite quotes from Hamilton is ‘And when I meet Thomas Jefferson, Imma compel him to include women in the sequel’ img_1138
  2. Nina from In The Heights: Nina is my favourite character from In the heights because at the start of the show she is so unsure of what she wants and struggles to express how much she struggled leaving the Barrio however she is the first person to attend college in her family and works full time as well to pay for her education so I think she is pretty inspirational 🙂img_1128
  3. Catherine Parr from Six: Six in general as a show has a Girl Power vibe and no-one more than Catherine Parr who fights against the rhetoric of having to define herself by how hard her life was with Henry. One of my favourite lyrics from Six is “Remember that I was a writer, I wrote books and psalms and meditations, Fought for female education, So all my women could independently, Study scripture, I even got a woman to paint my picture” which I absolutely love 🙂 Processed with VSCO with c1 preset
  4. Elle Woods from Legally Blonde: Legally Blonde is one of my favourite shows and one of the reasons I love the show so much is because of Elle Woods who is underestimated by everyone however despite this she gets into Harvard law school, gets a basically perfect LSAT score, wins the case and the nicer boy in the end 🙂 img_1117
  5. Elphaba from Wicked: Wicked was the very first musical I ever saw and I absolutely loved it and one of the scenes that I couldn’t get out of my head is when Elphaba sings defying gravity and is lifted into the air its such an iconic moment in Musical theatre and she shows that no matter what other people think of her shes going to do what she thinks is right which is so inspirational 🙂

Honorable mentions: Wednesday from The Addams family, Beverly Bass from Come From Away and the rest of the queens from Six.

Let me know in the comments who your favourite female musical theatre character is as I could write about many more lists of different characters and why I love them 🙂

5 More Musicals I love :)

5 More Musicals I love :)

On the 22nd of June I went to West End Live for the second time with my Mum which meant that I got to see some of the newer West End shows and I absolutely loved it so I thought that I would write a list of some of my favourites and also some of the musical soundtracks I have been listening to recently that I have loved 🙂  🙂 I have already written 3 posts similar to this one which can be found here, here and here.

  1. Bring It On- Similarly to the Mean Girls Musical this musical is based on a popular teen movie and another great thing about this musical is that the music is written by Lin Manuel Miranda!! I think my favourite songs from this show are Do Your Own Thing or What I was born to do.
  2. Be More Chill- I’ve heard many people talk about this show so I thought I would check it out and at first I wasn’t too sure but after a few songs I was hooked! My absolute favourite song from this show is Michael in the Bathroom which is performed by the incredibly talented George Salazar who puts so much emotion into the song.
  3. Six- Six has quickly become one of my new favourite shows and I really want to go see it which hopefully I will soon 🙂 My favourite queen is Anne Boleyn because I absolutely love her song Don’t Lose Your Head 🙂
  4. Newsies- I’ve heard people talk about his show for years and so a few weeks ago I decided to finally sit down and actually listen to the soundtrack and I actually loved it 🙂 The music is very feel good and makes you want to get up and dance 🙂
  5. Come From Away- This was one of the shows that I was most excited to see because I didn’t know too much about the show however I absolutely loved the two songs that they performed at West End live and I’m excited to listen to the rest of the soundtrack 🙂

Let me know in the comments what show I should listen to next 🙂
