What I got for Christmas/Christmas recap 2017Β

What I got for Christmas/Christmas recap 2017Β

*DISCLAIMER* I am not in any way trying to brag or show off I just love reading these types of posts and watching these kinds of videos so I thought I might try and do one myself ❀  I decided to combine the What I got for Christmas alongside a Christmas recap/what I got up to during December as I thought it might be a fun way to do it as it is the best of two worlds of not being too present based but also for the people who are like me and like to see what other people got for Christmas it includes an element of that as well πŸ™‚ *DISCLAIMER*

The first big Christmassy thing I did during the month of December was go to BeautyCon London which was absolutely AMAZING, it’s an event that happens every year where brands, influencers and celebrities get together to celebrate their love of Make-up πŸ™‚ I absolutely love Make-up as some of you may know so this was absolute Heaven for me ☺️ I went with my best friend Hannah and we had so much fun! She actually wrote a blog post about it which I will link here:Β https://justhannahhere.wordpress.com/2017/12/18/beautycon-london-2017/

My first christmas dinner was with my flatmates up in London on the 11th of December πŸ™‚ We decided to do a proper roast dinner for mains, I made chocolate brownie for dessert and Chiara made bruschetta and aubergine parmigiana for starters πŸ™‚ The food was absolutely delicious and we were so stuffed by the end of the meal!! It was lovely helping to prepare all of the food, go food shopping together and dance around the kitchen listening to Christmas songs πŸ™‚

There are four of us in the flat so we decided to do a Secret Santa πŸ™‚ The person who picked me for secret santa was my flatmate Poon who I actually only met at the start of this year but we get on really well and I feel like she got my present spot on πŸ™‚ I have been talking about the spectrum brushes for a while because they are gorgeous and was very close to buying a set when I went to the birchbox shop but now I have one of the brushes and you can never go wrong with fluffy socks!!

img_9897
My second Christmas get together was with my two really good friends from university Ria and Ellie πŸ™‚ We arranged to have a sleepover at Ellie’s house on the 17th of December when all of us had submitted our assessments for the term πŸ™‚ This time I had a slightly less traditional Christmas dinner which was a curry but it was also very very delicious πŸ™‚ After the food we watched love actually, played heads up which had us all laughing hysterically and chatted for ages πŸ™‚ The next morning we didn’t wake up till quite late as we were all shattered and then it was time to leave 😦

As some of you may know I am a massive Disney Nerd and love the songs from Disney movies so my friend Ria got me a cd of the Disney songs which also included a bonus cd of Christmas songs πŸ™‚ Earlier in the year we had had an assignment where we had to write about an animal from London Aquarium so I picked turtles because they are one of my favourite animals so my friend Ellie got me a gorgeous bracelet with a turtle on it which I am currently wearing as I write this post πŸ™‚

After the Christmas sleepover with Ellie and Ria it was time to come home for Christmas so that meant that I could put up my Christmas tree, see the family decorations and see my dog in her Christmas jumper!!!

My next two Christmas get togethers were with my two best friends from High School Hannah and Anna which involved us all going to Winter Wonderland and then all of us getting together for Pizza and movies which we do every year and have termed Friendmas πŸ™‚ I actually blogged both of these events which can be found here:

Winter Wonderland:https://gracethoroughgoodbeauty.wordpress.com/2017/12/20/winter-wonderland-2017/

Friendmas:Β https://gracethoroughgoodbeauty.wordpress.com/2017/12/27/friendmas/

After friendmas the next Christmassy thing was Christmas Eve!!! For anyone who read my Christmas Eve traditions blog you will know that on Christmas Eve my family has a tradition of having a Chinese Take-away in the evening, opening Β£5 presents which usually include some sort of game and watching a Christmas movie πŸ™‚ I didn’t take any photos or blog this as I wanted to be in the moment and enjoy it but I did take some photos on Christmas day! This year my brother had to work on Christmas day so we got up at 5am to open our presents and have a cooked breakfast before my brother went to work πŸ™‚ My brother went to work at around 7am so then the rest of my family went back to bed but I struggled to go back to sleep so stayed awake and watched How The Grinch Stole Christmas which is one of my favourite Christmas films πŸ™‚ When everyone else had woken up we had some nibbles, played games and then headed to my Nan’s house for a big Christmas dinner πŸ™‚

I was very spoilt this Christmas and received a Michael Kors bag!! I have wanted a Michael Kors bag as I have inherited my mum’s love of bags πŸ™‚ A few months ago my parents went to Bichester Village which is an outlet in Birmingham and took me with them as they wanted me to pick out a bag I would like πŸ™‚ I am a lover of purple so ofc I picked a purple/burgandy style bag πŸ™‚ I was very lucky and received the Zoella Treasure me set which has most of her Snowella collection and a Lush gift box as I am a big fan of Lush! The candle, Dodie book, Smashbox set and Morphe palette were all surprises which I was not expecting and I am beyond grateful ❀ ❀ ❀ ❀

On Boxing day my Mum’s brother and his family came round for another Christmas dinner which was so nice and then the Christmas period was over 😦 😦 I have had such an amazing December which included completing blogmas- I enjoyed blogmas so much I decided to daily blog until the end of December which you might have noticed. I want to thank everyone who has stuck with me through this month and has read my blog posts and commented and liked I hope you have enjoyed reading the posts as much as I have enjoyed writing them and I hope you also enjoy the next two posts which are going up ❀ Who knows I might be doing blogmas again next year πŸ˜›

Let me know in the comments what you got up to during the festive period ❀

FriendmasΒ 2017 :)

FriendmasΒ 2017 :)

Every year for the past 3 years Hannah, Anna (my two best friends) and I have gotten together for a day of festive fun including a christmas dinner of sorts and usually watching a movie and dancing around to music πŸ™‚

This year was no different and on the 22nd of December we got together to celebrate a tradition which has now been termed Friendmas πŸ™‚ I set up the christmas table ready for a non-traditional christmas lunch of Pizza, garlic bread, doughballs and then cookies for dessert πŸ™‚

After food we then moved into the living room and bingewatched Alisha Marie’s 2016 vlogmas which was such a lot of fun πŸ™‚ I personally love Alisha because she always has such creative Vlogmas intros and I love her positivity which is great during the Christmas period πŸ™‚ Whilst watching vlogmas we munched on the cookies which Anna had made- they were delicious!

After watching vlogmas we chatted and danced around to music videos and then took some selfies πŸ™‚

I always love Friendmas because we are all very busy and Anna goes to a university which is quite far away but ever since we left high school 3 years ago we have always gotten together for this occasion and I hope this tradition will continue on for many more years πŸ™‚

Let me know in the comments if you have any traditions which are similar to this with your friends πŸ™‚

Winter Wonderland 2017

Winter Wonderland 2017

Every year for the past 3 years my friend Hannah and I have been to Winter Wonderland so this year was no exception and our friend Anna came along with us last year and came along again this year πŸ™‚ My blog post from last years Winter Wonderland can be found here:Β https://gracethoroughgoodbeauty.wordpress.com/2016/12/22/christmas-2016/

When we arrive at winter wonderland we always walk in staring at the massive wheel which looks so cool πŸ™‚

After taking some photos of the wheel we went along and had a look at some of the stalls who sell stuff from Christmas jumpers to candle holders and Christmas baubles so it’s always really nice to have a shop and explore πŸ™‚

As well as shopping Winter Wonderland has lots of rides for people to go on including roller coasters, haunted houses, carousels and giant swings πŸ™‚ We didn’t go on any of the rides this year but it’s always fun to see all the cool lights and enjoy the atmosphere πŸ™‚

After walking around Winter Wonderland once and exploring we were very very cold so decided to find some hot drinks to warm us up πŸ™‚ Every year at Winter Wonderland we usually get a hot chocolate but this year I found a stall selling White Chocolate hot chocolates!!! It tasted like melted white chocolate and next year I will definitely be on the look out for it again!!

After our hot chocolates we realised we hadn’t found the Winter Wonderland arches so went off in search of them but instead found some Christmas trees πŸ˜‚

Finally we came across the famous Winter Wonderland Christmas arches, they have them every year and all over Instagram there are photos of the arches so we couldn’t help but try and find them and take some photos πŸ™‚

After this we were all very tired so grabbed some churros because it’s not Winter Wonderland without churros and headed home πŸ™‚

Overall I still love Winter Wonderland as much as I did when I first went and I would highly recommend a trip to Hyde Park to go if you’re around London- I know I’ll be going again next year πŸ™‚

Let me know in the comments if you have ever been to Winter Wonderland πŸ™‚

Copenhagen 2017

Copenhagen 2017

On the 10th of October 2017 my flatmate Su knocked on my door and asked if I wanted to go to Copenhagen for the weekend at some point in November- because I have a Monday and a Friday off this term I immediately said yes! Within an hour it was all booked up for the weekend of the 3rd- 6th of November πŸ™‚

On the 3rd we had to wake up super early because we had a flight from Stanstead Airport at 8.45am so we had to leave our flat at 5.30am 😦 We got the tube to Liverpool Street, Stanstead express from Liverpool street to the airport, grabbed a Starbucks because the festive drinks had just come out and boarded the plane πŸ™‚

When we arrived in Copenhagen we bought metro tickets and headed to the AirBNB that we would be staying in for the next few days- the AirBNB was lovely and about as big as our 4 person flat in london!! We spoke to the host about what to do in Copenhagen and they said to make sure we went to a place called Tivoli which we had been led to believe was closed. After unpacking our suitcases we jumped back on the metro and headed to central copenhagen to find Tivoli Amusement Park πŸ™‚

We arrived at Tivoli, bought an unlimited ride pass and wow did we use it! We went on the carousel, the dragon boats, the astronomer, the star flyer, the galley ships, the mine, the monsoon, the bumper cars and the roller coaster. Our absolute favourite was the star flyer, although you were very high and being swung around therefore it was absolutely freezing the view was breathtaking and because the ride was set up so that it felt like you were flying on a broomstick my friend and I sung Defying Gravity at the tops of our voices whilst on the ride πŸ˜›

After all of the rides we grabbed some food and watched a light show on the river where the water would light up different colours and there were fireworks which was really cool πŸ™‚ Tivoli gardens was absolutely amazing and if you ever find yourself in Copenhagen I would highly recommend it although maybe not on the day you fly because by the time we finally crawled into bed at around Midnight we were absolutely shattered!!

The next day we had a lie in because we were both knackered from the day before but when we finally woke up we grabbed some breakfast and jumped on the metro towards NyHaven which was the most beautiful waterfront and street I had ever seen!! The houses were all gorgeous colours and Hans Christian Anderson lived in one of the houses which was really cool πŸ™‚

After looking around Nyhaven we decided it was time for a very late lunch so we went to this lovely restaurant called Geist which I would highly reccomend if you are ever in Copenhagen and has the most AMAZING candyfloss which looked like a cloud!

After lunch we walked for around half an hour stopping to shop and have a look around and finally came across the famous Little Mermaid from the Hans Christian anderson fairytale. It was a lot smaller than you would think but was still really cool to see πŸ™‚

After the Little Mermaid statue we headed back to our AirBnB and ended up cooking dinner there and then watched a sing along version of Pitch Perfect :p

On our last full day in Copenhagen we got up, had breakfast and then headed off to an area of Copenhagen called Norreport which has cool shopping, museums and a castle!! Our first stop was the Rosenborg castle which was absolutely beautiful πŸ™‚ We then did some shopping and walked along to the National Museums which includes a zooological and geological museum and the botanical gardens πŸ™‚

After the museums we then went to a food market which was really cool and had a delicious Duck sandwich for dinner and then it was time to head back to the AirBnb.

Our final day was spent packing in the morning and then we headed to another Copenhagen castle called the Christiansborg Palace after which it was time to head to the airport for our flight home 😦

Overall I absolutely loved my time in Copenhagen and I had such a blast πŸ™‚ I’m so happy I said yes when my flatmate knocked on my door a month ago and it’s an experience I will never forget πŸ™‚

Let me know in the comments if you have ever been to Copenhagen or if this post has inspired you to go πŸ™‚

Halloween 2017Β

Halloween 2017Β

Halloween over the past few years has become one of my favourite holidays and it lasts for the entire month of October πŸ™‚ I even changed my phone wallpaper and had many a pumpkin spice latte ❀

Decorations:

Before one of my many Halloween movie nights I went out to buy some popcorn because you can’t have a movie night without popcorn!! I went to my local Sainsburys and I found some AMAZING halloween decorations so had to buy a few πŸ™‚

The weekend before Halloween I went home to see my family and ended up carving a pumpkin which is something I try to do every year πŸ™‚ This year I decided to carve my pumpkin like The Oogie Boogie Man from The Nightmare Before Christmas ❀

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset
Lush:

One of the main reasons I love halloween is because of the lush products- every year lush outdo themselves with their seasonal releases and this year was no exception. They bought back some favourites including the sparkly pumpkin but there were also a few new releases this year including the Bewitched bubble bar πŸ™‚

Starbucks:

Starbucks Fall drinks are always so amazing and I always make sure to get a Pumpkin Spice Latte at least a few times during the month of October πŸ™‚ There are quite a few different fall drinks this year including the Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino and the Vampire Frappuccino.

Candles:

When I visited New York earlier this year I managed to get my hands on some Bath and Body works candles and absolutely fell in love with them so this year I decided that I would try and get hold of some Bath and Body Works seasonal candles. I looked up some reviews and these three seemed like a good choice πŸ™‚ I absolutely love Sweater Weather and I think it might be my favourite candle- after Winter Candy Apple ofc!! I will definitely be reordering these candles if they come back next year alongside a few more πŸ™‚

Movies:

I really hate Horror movies so I try and stay away from some of the more traditional Halloween movies- this year I had 3 different Halloween movie nights because I had uni till quite late so couldn’t finish them all in one night πŸ™‚ I watched The Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus on the first night, Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2 on the second night and then finally The Addams Family and Rocky horror on the last night πŸ™‚

Overall Halloween 2017 has been a blast and I can’t wait to see what next year brings!!Β Let me know in the comments what you got up to this Halloween ❀

Barcelona 2017

Barcelona 2017

Some of you may know that last year my friend Hannah and I went to Paris for a few days and had such an amazing time that this year we decided to go to Barcelona! Barcelona is a city known for its art and architecture especially the architectural works of Antoni Gaudi. There are many of Gaudi’s masterpieces in the city centre including the breathtaking Sagrada Familia which almost 100 years after his death is still not complete!

On the 4th of September we flew from London Gatwick Airport to Barcelona El Prat Airport- the flight was around 2 hours and was spent re-watching a tv series called Girl Boss. Before the flight we obviously had to grab a Starbucks and I had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the Year πŸ™‚Β

The flight didn’t land until 8pm so that evening we just got the metro to the hotel, checked in and went to sleep because we were both exhausted and excited for the days ahead.

On the Tuesday we decided that we would walk along Las Ramblas towards the Marina+ Beach because it was extremely hot! The walk along Las Ramblas was a little disappointing because it was all souvenir shops but the Marina was absolutely beautiful!! We were both very excited to get to the beach and go swimming so we rushed past the Marina and decided to properly explore on the way back and hurried off towards the Sea πŸ™‚

After swimming for a bit and chilling on the beach listening to some music we decided to start heading back towards the hotel past the Marina, this time we spent some time taking pictures and found a restaurant which was serving traditional Paella so we stopped off and had some lunch ❀

After lunch we went back along Las Ramblas to the hotel for a shower to wash off the salt water and then I really wanted to go to Sephora so using google maps we found one that was not too far away πŸ™‚

After Sephora we had some dinner and then went to Casa Batllo which is a Gaudi building which makes you feel like you are underwater!!! We went there for a ‘Magic Night’ which included a tour and live music after πŸ™‚ The building was absolutely stunning and was a 2 minute walk from our hotel which worked out well πŸ™‚

For our second day in Barcelona we decided that we would go on a bus tour of the city- we used a company called Bus Turistic which has 3 different lines. We decided to do the Red Route first which took us past the MNAC where we decided to get off and explore, there were some breathtaking views of Bareclona from the MNAC and we also went past the magic fountain πŸ™‚

After the MNAC we had some pizza for lunch (yes we ate pizza in Spain :P) and continued on the Red Route of the bus tour which took us past La Seu which is a Gothic Barcelona Cathedral in Palma.

After La Seu we then got on the Green route which took us past a different beach and then headed back to the area around our hotel where we grabbed some tapas for dinner πŸ™‚

After Tapas we went to find the Torre Glories which is a cigar shaped building which lights up different colours at evening. Unfortunately on this particular evening the Torre Glories did not light up but we did go past a really pretty fountain which was lit up ❀

Our last full day in Barcelona got off to a slightly later start because we were both exhausted from lots of walking and excitement over the past few days. We decided that we would spend our last day doing the Blue route of the bus tour because we had 2 day tickets πŸ™‚ The blue route included the Sagrada Familia, Park Guell and the football stadium.

We went to the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell to buy our tickets for the day and then got back on the bus to take us round the route once before dropping us back off at the Sagrada Familia. The Sagrada Familia is only 70% complete but they are hoping to complete the architectural work by 2026- the centennial of Antoni Gaudi’s death. The cathedral will have 18 towers when complete- 12 towers representing the apostles, a tower dedicated to Jesus Christ, four respresenting the gospels and the final tower representing the Virgin Mary.

After the Sagrada Familia we went along to Park Guell which was originally going to be a housing site but has since been converted into a municipal garden with mosaics and Gaudi’s house.

After Park Guell it was around 7pm so we got the Metro down to the Marina and decided to have some cocktails whilst watching the Sunset which was such a nice experience πŸ™‚

On our last day in Barcelona we walked along to the beach and then had to head back to the hotel, collect our stuff and go to the airport 😦

Overall I absolutely loved Barcelona, the architecture is so amazing and so is the food πŸ˜› It was really nice to be close to the beach as well so you get the best of both worlds πŸ™‚

Let me know in the comments if you have ever been to Barcelona or if you want to go after reading this post πŸ™‚

SITC 2017

SITC 2017

Last year I went to Summer in the City at the Excel Centre in London for the first time and I loved it so much that I decided to go again this year πŸ™‚ Summer in the City is a massive youtube event where you can meet Youtubers, go to panels, see performances and have lots of fun πŸ™‚

From my house it takes about 1 1/2 hours and involves a train, two tubes and the DLR so I had to get up super early on the Saturday to go and meet my friend at 11 πŸ™‚ Whilst waiting for my friend at the station I spotted the Mandeville sisters so decided that I would go up and say hi because the DLR wasn’t due for another 10 minutes πŸ™‚ I met the Mandeville sisters last year at SITC and they were both so lovely and we had a really nice chat ❀

The first thing I did when actually I got to Summer in the City was go straight to my first meet and greet with Eva Gutowski aka MyLifeAsEva who was so nice πŸ™‚ She had a chat with everyone and took ages doing lots of different poses for photos πŸ™‚

After meeting Eva I went out into the main area where there were rides, merch stands and a mcflurry truck! I had a wander round and saw that Bethan Leadley was at her merch table πŸ™‚ I have met Bethan a few times and she is so genuine and always has time for fans so I thought I would go and say hi and pick up a poster πŸ™‚ I’m loving her new single and her pink hair is so cool!Β

After meeting Bethan I wandered even further along the merch tables and spotted Sophie Foster who I met before 2 years ago so I wanted to meet her again to say hi and take a comparison photo πŸ™‚ She was so funny and looked absolutely gorgeous!

After having a chat with Sophie I had to rush off to my scheduled Meet and Greet with Hannah Witton and Lucy Moon- the queue was really long but it was worth it πŸ™‚ They were both hilarious, had a chat with everyone and Lucy had similar shoes to me although she wasn’t wearing hers πŸ˜›

After all the meet and greets it was time for some lunch as by this time I was really hungry! I actually went to get lunch with a girl called Molly who I met in the line for Hannah and Lucy πŸ™‚ We then wandered around the main area taking a few photos and then went off to get a free Mcflurry and went to eat it by the main stage which is where I stayed for the rest of the evening πŸ™‚ My phone died whilst eating lunch so unfortunately I don’t have any photos from after the meet and greets 😦

The Sunday of SITC is generally a lot more chill, there are less people and because I didn’t have any scheduled meet and greets I thought I would spend the day wandering around the main area, taking photos and buying merch πŸ™‚ The first thing I did was go along to the SITC 2017 sign and take some photos πŸ™‚

I then went along to the TenEighty stand because Hannah Witton was signing magazines πŸ™‚ I got her to sign a magazine for me and took a selfie because why not πŸ˜›Β

After seeing Hannah Witton again I went and bought some Merch from Dodie Clark and the official SITC stand and then went for some lunch πŸ™‚

The first thing you saw as you walked into the main area of SITC was a massive youtube sign- it had a massive queue to take photos in front of it for most of the weekend but after lunch there was a relatively short queue so I decided to grab and photo and then went past the really cool Insta wall! There were colourful balloons and a swing which you could take photos with but due to a lack of time and a long queue I didn’t get a photo with it 😦

Finally before we left we walked passed the Penguin books stand where they were giving away goodie bags and had lots of book you could buy πŸ™‚ I decided to buy a book called One of us is lying and took a bookstagram with their books πŸ™‚

Overall it was an amazing weekend that I will never forget and I’m so excited to return next year ❀

Let me know in the comments if you have ever been to Summer in the City or a similar event and what your experience was like πŸ™‚
