Some of you may know that last year my friend Hannah and I went to Paris for a few days and had such an amazing time that this year we decided to go to Barcelona! Barcelona is a city known for its art and architecture especially the architectural works of Antoni Gaudi. There are many of Gaudi’s masterpieces in the city centre including the breathtaking Sagrada Familia which almost 100 years after his death is still not complete!
On the 4th of September we flew from London Gatwick Airport to Barcelona El Prat Airport- the flight was around 2 hours and was spent re-watching a tv series called Girl Boss. Before the flight we obviously had to grab a Starbucks and I had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the Year πΒ
The flight didn’t land until 8pm so that evening we just got the metro to the hotel, checked in and went to sleep because we were both exhausted and excited for the days ahead.
On the Tuesday we decided that we would walk along Las Ramblas towards the Marina+ Beach because it was extremely hot! The walk along Las Ramblas was a little disappointing because it was all souvenir shops but the Marina was absolutely beautiful!! We were both very excited to get to the beach and go swimming so we rushed past the Marina and decided to properly explore on the way back and hurried off towards the Sea π

After swimming for a bit and chilling on the beach listening to some music we decided to start heading back towards the hotel past the Marina, this time we spent some time taking pictures and found a restaurant which was serving traditional Paella so we stopped off and had some lunch β€

After lunch we went back along Las Ramblas to the hotel for a shower to wash off the salt water and then I really wanted to go to Sephora so using google maps we found one that was not too far away π

After Sephora we had some dinner and then went to Casa Batllo which is a Gaudi building which makes you feel like you are underwater!!! We went there for a ‘Magic Night’ which included a tour and live music after π The building was absolutely stunning and was a 2 minute walk from our hotel which worked out well π

For our second day in Barcelona we decided that we would go on a bus tour of the city- we used a company called Bus Turistic which has 3 different lines. We decided to do the Red Route first which took us past the MNAC where we decided to get off and explore, there were some breathtaking views of Bareclona from the MNAC and we also went past the magic fountain π

After the MNAC we had some pizza for lunch (yes we ate pizza in Spain :P) and continued on the Red Route of the bus tour which took us past La Seu which is a Gothic Barcelona Cathedral in Palma.

After La Seu we then got on the Green route which took us past a different beach and then headed back to the area around our hotel where we grabbed some tapas for dinner π
After Tapas we went to find the Torre Glories which is a cigar shaped building which lights up different colours at evening. Unfortunately on this particular evening the Torre Glories did not light up but we did go past a really pretty fountain which was lit up β€

Our last full day in Barcelona got off to a slightly later start because we were both exhausted from lots of walking and excitement over the past few days. We decided that we would spend our last day doing the Blue route of the bus tour because we had 2 day tickets π The blue route included the Sagrada Familia, Park Guell and the football stadium.

We went to the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell to buy our tickets for the day and then got back on the bus to take us round the route once before dropping us back off at the Sagrada Familia. The Sagrada Familia is only 70% complete but they are hoping to complete the architectural work by 2026- the centennial of Antoni Gaudi’s death. The cathedral will have 18 towers when complete- 12 towers representing the apostles, a tower dedicated to Jesus Christ, four respresenting the gospels and the final tower representing the Virgin Mary.

After the Sagrada Familia we went along to Park Guell which was originally going to be a housing site but has since been converted into a municipal garden with mosaics and Gaudi’s house.

After Park Guell it was around 7pm so we got the Metro down to the Marina and decided to have some cocktails whilst watching the Sunset which was such a nice experience π

On our last day in Barcelona we walked along to the beach and then had to head back to the hotel, collect our stuff and go to the airport π¦
Overall I absolutely loved Barcelona, the architecture is so amazing and so is the food π It was really nice to be close to the beach as well so you get the best of both worlds π
Let me know in the comments if you have ever been to Barcelona or if you want to go after reading this post π
