My favourite lyrics from The Prom :)

My favourite lyrics from The Prom :)

While re-reading all of my old musical theatre lyrics posts I realised that none of them included lyrics from Beetlejuice or The Prom which are now two of my favourite musicals so I thought that I would write out some of my favourite lyrics from the Prom this week and then in a few weeks time I will write about Beetlejuice πŸ™‚

  1. I just wanna dance with you, let the whole world melt away and dance with you- Dance with you
  2. Improve all of your strong points, And hide things that you lack, Cause mom’s convinced if you’re perfect, Your father will might come back- Alyssa Greene
  3. I can guess your whole agenda, You be Elphie, I’m Glinda, It’s makeover time so why not just give in- Tonight Belongs to you
  4. One thing’s universal, Life’s no dress rehearsal, So why not make some waves before it’s through- Tonight Belongs to you
  5. So hear my plea, Or here’s your next dilemma, How do you silence a woman who’s known for her belt?- Its not about me
  6. Try journaling, Or start a blog, Just end this inner monologue, Seethe, if you must, But just breathe- Just Breathe
  7. Not to oversimplify, But the scripture does imply, That your mom will have to die, How’s tomorrow if she’s not got any plans?- Love Thy Neighbour
  8. Make people see how the world could one day be, It might come true if we take a chance, But ’til that day comes, I say cue the drums And take to the floor That’s what the floor’s for- Its time to Dance
  9. But I promise with some time, That my aptitude will climb, And you’ll leave your doubts, And disbeliefs behind!- The Ladys Improving

July-ving and thriving Day 18: My favourite lyrics from In The Heights :)

Since watching Hamilton on Disney+ I have been on a Lin Manual Miranda binge and have rediscovered my love of In the Heights and have been marvelling at how clever the lyrics from this show are πŸ™‚

  2. When you find your way again you’re going to change the world- When you’re home
  3. The boys around the way holler at me every day but I don’t mind, oh no. If I’m in the mood, it will not be with some dude, Who is whistling ’cause he has nothing to say- It Won’t be long now
  4. When I was a child, I stayed wide awake, Climbed to the highest place, On every fire escape, Restless to climb. Respira, I got every scholarship, Saved every dollar, The first to go to college- Breathe
  5. Oh no, there goes mr. Braggadocio, Next thing you know, you’re lying like pinnochio- 96,000

  9. When you have a problem you come home, You don’t go off and make matters worse on your own- Enough
  10. If it happened on this block, Abuela was there, Every afternoon I came She’d make sure I did my homework, She could barely write her name, But even so she would stare at the paper and tell me, “Bueno, Let’s review. Why don’t you tell me everything you know?”- Everything I know

July-ving and thriving Day 11: Ranking West End Musicals :)

July-ving and thriving Day 11: Ranking West End Musicals :)

As part of Carrie Hope Fletchers Good Evening World series she decided to rank the Top 10 West EndΒ  musicals according to the Visit London website so I thought I would rank them as well as I am a massive musical theatre fan and there aren’t many shows that I’ve never seen and I doubt that there are any musicals that I will end up putting any shows in the awful tier! πŸ™‚

God Tier: Wicked, Les Miserables, The Book of Mormon, Dear Evan Hansen

Top Tier: The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia, Matilda

Mid Tier: Mary Poppins, Tina Turner (however I have never personally seen this show but have seen them perform at West End Live)

Awful:

There are lots of other shows that I would add to the God Tier including: Hamilton, Come From Away, Be More Chill, Six and Heathers and I’m sure there will be more in the years to come πŸ™‚ I saw Jesus Christ Superstar Live when it was uploaded to the Andrew Lloyd Webber YT channel The Show Must Go On and I would add that to God Tier as well because I haven’t been able to get the music out of my head and my mum and I both agreed that we would want to go and see the show if it came to the West End πŸ™‚

Let me know in the comments if you agree with my rankings πŸ™‚

July-ving and thriving Day 3: Bad-ass Female musical theatre characters :)

July-ving and thriving Day 3: Bad-ass Female musical theatre characters :)

Today on Disney Plus a film of the original broadway cast performing Hamilton is being released which I am so excited for and have been since I found out πŸ™‚ One of the many things I love about Hamilton is the strong female characters so I thought for todays post I would write about some of my favourite female characters in musical theatre focusing on Lin Manuels work and a few more πŸ™‚

  1. Angelica Schuyler from Hamilton: Two of my favourite songs from Hamilton are Satisfied and The Schuyler sisters as they are sassy and fun but also show just how strong and amazing these sisters truly are πŸ™‚ Angelica is my favourite Schuyler sister because she gives up her own happiness for her sisters and some of my favourite quotes from Hamilton is ‘And when I meet Thomas Jefferson, Imma compel him to include women in the sequel’ img_1138
  2. Nina from In The Heights: Nina is my favourite character from In the heights because at the start of the show she is so unsure of what she wants and struggles to express how much she struggled leaving the Barrio however she is the first person to attend college in her family and works full time as well to pay for her education so I think she is pretty inspirational πŸ™‚img_1128
  3. Catherine Parr from Six: Six in general as a show has a Girl Power vibe and no-one more than Catherine Parr who fights against the rhetoric of having to define herself by how hard her life was with Henry. One of my favourite lyrics from Six is “Remember that I was a writer, I wrote books and psalms and meditations, Fought for female education, So all my women could independently, Study scripture, I even got a woman to paint my picture” which I absolutely love πŸ™‚ Processed with VSCO with c1 preset
  4. Elle Woods from Legally Blonde: Legally Blonde is one of my favourite shows and one of the reasons I love the show so much is because of Elle Woods who is underestimated by everyone however despite this she gets into Harvard law school, gets a basically perfect LSAT score, wins the case and the nicer boy in the end πŸ™‚ img_1117
  5. Elphaba from Wicked: Wicked was the very first musical I ever saw and I absolutely loved it and one of the scenes that I couldn’t get out of my head is when Elphaba sings defying gravity and is lifted into the air its such an iconic moment in Musical theatre and she shows that no matter what other people think of her shes going to do what she thinks is right which is so inspirational πŸ™‚

Honorable mentions: Wednesday from The Addams family, Beverly Bass from Come From Away and the rest of the queens from Six.

Let me know in the comments who your favourite female musical theatre character is as I could write about many more lists of different characters and why I love them πŸ™‚
