Halloween in London :)

Halloween in London :)

I am a big Halloween fan and have lived in London for my entire life so I thought I would write a post about some of the amazing things you can do in London at Halloween time πŸ™‚

  1. Halloween at Harry Potter Studios – Master the Dark Arts: I have been to the Watford Harry Potter Studios three times already but I haven’t seen the new Gringotts set and I haven’t been during their Halloween season where they decorate all of the sets with Pumpkins and they also have live duels with Death Eaters πŸ™‚ This event runs from the 27th of September until the 10th of November πŸ™‚

  2. Halloween Quiz Night at the Cereal Killer Cafe: I have been to the Cereal Killer Cafe once before and I absolutely loved it so for any fans of crazy cereals and Halloween I would highly recommend heading to the Cereal Killer Cafe for their Halloween Quiz Night where you will be quizzed on your knowledge of Horror movies!
  3. So Fetch Halloween Cuisine Immersive Experience- Duo London: I have been to the Mean Girls Afternoon Tea before which was absolutely amazing and I’m very tempted to head back for the Halloween evening Duo has planned with a three course meal, Mean Girls inspired cocktails and Halloween themed desserts πŸ™‚

  4. Tower of London- Despite living in London for my entire life I have never been to the Tower of London but theres no better time than Halloween to visit one of Englands most infamous prisons!
  5. Prince Charles Theatre by Leicester Square- Rocky Horror Picture Show: I am a big fan of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and I have watched the film every Halloween for the past few years and have seen the show twice πŸ™‚ This year the Prince Charles Cinema is having a Sing Along version of the film on Halloween which I think sounds awesome!
  6. Wicked- If you guys have been following me for a while you will know about my love of Wicked as it was the first show I ever saw and I really want to go see the show again! I feel like Halloween is the perfect time to go and see the show as it is the story of two witches!
  7. The London Dungeons- There are two different rides at the London Dungeons including an underground water ride and a free fall ride which both sound amazing! The London Dungeons is another place in London that I have never been but there is no better time to go than Halloween as they take you through some of Englands most notorious criminals and most hallowing history.
  8. Fright Night at Thorpe Park- I haven’t been to Thorpe Park for years however I really want to go back during their annual Halloween extravaganza Fright Night which runs from the 28th of September to the 3rd of November which includes scare mazes and all of their amazing rides.
  9. Boo at the Zoo- I absolutely love London Zoo and this year for Halloween they have family Halloween themed activities from the 19-27th of October πŸ™‚ They have pumpkin carving, and they also have a pumpkin patch!
  10. Phantom of the Opera- I went to see Phantom of the Opera last year and I absolutely loved it! Its a fantastic show and there is definitely a Halloween theme with the Phamtom πŸ™‚

London Dessert Festival

London Dessert Festival

On the 17th of August my best friend Hannah and I went to the London Dessert Festival at the Old Brewery on Brick Lane πŸ™‚ If you guys have been following my blog for a while then you will know that during our third year at university Hannah and I would often go and find cute dessert places in London which I wrote about here and here so this was right up our street πŸ™‚Β We arrived and had a look around at all of the stalls sampling some of the food, took some cute photos for Instagram, jumped in the Marshmallow pool and then decided to buy some desserts that we wanted to try πŸ™‚ I chose a Nutella and Oreo ice cream from Pan N Ice as I have always wanted to try an Ice cream roll! Hannah got Lemon Meringue cookie dough so we decided to share our desserts and have half each meaning that we got to try more of the desserts on offer πŸ™‚ After the ice cream and cookie dough I had spotted a Taiyaki which is a Japanese fish-shaped cake which I really wanted to try so I got the mini Taiyaki which was filled with Nutella and absolutely delicous! πŸ™‚ It was such a fun day and I would definitely love to go back next year πŸ™‚

Let me know in the comments what your favourite dessert is πŸ™‚

Heathers the Musical :)

Heathers the Musical :)

On the 13th of June I got the opportunity to go and see Heathers the Musical at The Other Palace and it was absolutely incredible!!!! Before going to the show I had listened to a few of the songs from the soundtrack and had seen the movie so although I knew the basic storyline and some of the songs nothing could have prepared me for being in the theatre as it was unlike anything I had ever experienced. It felt like everyone was part of the production as it is being performed in quite a small theatre which intensified the already electric energy and *spoiler ahead* during one of the songs someone gets selected from the audience which just adds to the feeling of everyone being somehow involved in the production. Everyone was on the edge of their seats and because Heathers is such a classic show everyone was waiting for certain lines and would cheer before certain songs especially My Dead Gay Son- the reaction to that song from the crowd is something I will never forget πŸ˜‚ If you do go to see the show I would also recommend getting a Heathers inspired cocktail, I tried the Freeze Your Brain slushie and also Shine a Light which were both delicious!

I feel like I can’t talk about Heathers the Musical without first discussing Carrie Hope Fletcher who was absolutely incredible as Veronica Sawyer. I had previously seen her in The Addams Family and am a fan of her YouTube channel but her performance as Veronica was on another level! She is on stage for basically the entire production so the stamina alone needed for that is an accomplishment in itself. Her vocal range is incredible which I already knew from seeing her in a previous production but the Heathers soundtrack requires a very strong voice to pull it off which she definitely did. I think Andy Fickman definitely made the right decision choosing Carrie for the role of Veronica, it was like the role was made for her! Veronica in the show is very loving and just wants everyone to be kind to each other which is very similar to Carrie in real life who many (including myself) look up to as a role model and big sister figure πŸ™‚ I have watched Carrie for a few years now since I was 16 so it was great seeing Carrie get out of her comfort zone and progress as an actress as well because Veronica certainly finds herself in some interesting situations *coughs* dead girl walking *coughs* accessory to murder. I’m excited to follow Carrie’s journey as Veronica through her Big Fun Friday vlogs as well πŸ™‚

Not only was Carrie incredible but the whole cast is insanely talented!! Jamie Muscato was fantastic as the psychotic but strangely loveable J.D. and portrayed the complexity of J.D.’s character impeccably. Sophie Isaacs portrayal of Heather McNamara was heart wrenching and I found myself tearing up during the song Lifeboat, she showed the sadness and feeling of hopelessness with regards to McNamaras character perfectly. Jodie Steele made a fantastic Heather Chandler and looked like she was having Big Fun on stage especially during The Me Inside of Me. Her voice during Candy Store blew me away and I will definitely be expecting to see her in lots more productions in the future. Heather Duke was played by T’shan Williams who showed the progression of her character from before and after Heather Chandlers death impeccably well and took her opportunity to shine during Never Shut Up Again and really showed her amazing voice πŸ™‚ Jenny O’Leary was phenomenal as Martha Dunnstock and I again was getting teary during her rendition of Kindergarden Boyfriend. Rebecca Lock was hilarious as Ms Flemming and her voice fit the song Shine A Light perfectly πŸ™‚ Chris Chung and Dominic Anderson made a fantastic double act with Kurt and Ram, they both had great voices and although I’m sure they’re both lovely people played the creepy douchebags very well πŸ™‚

Heathers is a musical about acceptance and how we should always choose to act with kindness. It does an amazing job at tackling some very dark issues including suicide and date rape in a comical way but also highlighting the seriousness of these issues. I wish I could watch the show again but alas the show is now sold out for its entire run until August!! How Very!!

5 more Instagrammable dessert places in London :)

5 more Instagrammable dessert places in London :)

As some of you may recall earlier in the year I wrote a blog post about some of the cafes and dessert shops I had been to in London explaining what I thought about them which can be found here:Β https://gracethoroughgoodbeauty.wordpress.com/2018/01/12/10-places-in-london-that-will-give-your-friends-foodenvy/ Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β . Since then I have been to a few more places since I am still living in london (at least for the next few weeks) so I thought I would update you guys on some of my findings πŸ™‚

1. Peggy Porschen Cakes – This was one which my friend Hannah suggested and I have to say is one of my favourites on this list! The cakes are delicious, the interior design is gorgeous meaning that the Instagram possibilities are endless! The only slight negative I can find for this cafe is that sometimes you may have to queue for a while because it is quite popular πŸ™‚

2. Dominique Ansel Bakery- I had heard quite a bit about this cafe through friends and had seen it on quite a few people’s Instagrams so was very excited which my friend Hannah suggested that we go there πŸ™‚ It is famous for its cronuts and beautiful interior design πŸ™‚ Unfortunately I did not get to try one of their cronuts because we arrived too late (but have since tried a cronut from somewhere else and wasn’t that enthralled- don’t hate me!). I would suggest if you really want one of the cronuts that you arrive very early!

3. Knockbox Coffee- After walking past Knockbox Coffee every day for 8 months I finally decided to go in and try their coffee which was absolutely delicious and also tried a slice of the blueberry loaf which was so lovely πŸ™‚ There are benches so that you can sit outside if its one of the few sunny days we get here in Britain which I can imagine would be really nice πŸ™‚

4. Bea of Bloomsbury- This is another cafe that I walked past for the last 8 months on my way to university so after my exams finished I decided it was finally time to head in and try one of the cakes πŸ™‚ The interior was gorgeous, I was sat at a table in the corner with comfy benches, cushions and it felt like a classic comfy cafe, the cake was delicious and the people was so lovely! I also saw someone else having an afternoon tea which looked incredible so I may have to return with my mum for an afternoon tea at some point πŸ™‚

5. Soft serve society- Since my exams are now finished I have found myself heading out to new places and found myself in Shoreditch recently which was so much fun πŸ™‚ I headed to the Shoreditch box-park which is really nice πŸ™‚ The box-park is filled with nice dessert places and food places including Soft Serve Society πŸ™‚ Although Soft Serve Society is known for its charcoal ice cream I decided to get the Cloud 9 sundae because I saw that it had candyfloss which I love πŸ™‚

Let me know in the comments if there are any cute dessert places in London that you think I should check out πŸ™‚

Change- Chapter 1

Change- Chapter 1

Focus: Food and University

Food is so important to your health and wellbeing but during exam season I was definitely guilty of eating a few too many snacks. This month also involved finishing off my dissertation which is worth 50% of my final year university grade!!!! My two mini aims for the end of the month of may were:

  1. Finish and hand in my dissertation
  2. Cook two new meals.

Favourite quote of the month: when life hands you lemons, ditch them and grab a latte.

On the 11th of May I had my last exam in the afternoon and then came back to my flat and went to see the new Avengers film Infinity war with two of my flatmates as a celebration for finishing exams ❀ It was so much fun because we got free popcorn and are all massive Marvel nerds πŸ™‚

The Saturday started off with me going to a local cupcake shop called Bea of Bloomsbury which was so much fun and I go past it most days on my way to uni so it was nice to finally go in πŸ™‚ I then bought some flowers from Sainsburys to brighten up my room ❀

I met my mum on the Sunday for some lunch and a little bit of shopping which was so nice because I hadn’t seen her in ages as I had been revising at my London flat πŸ™‚

On the 15th of May I met my friend Hannah for dinner at a vegan restaurant called The Blacksmith and the Toffeemaker which was so lovely and then came back to my flat and had a movie night with two of my flatmates because I had recently bought The Greatest Showman DVD πŸ™‚

On the 16th of May I met one of my friends who I met in first year in halls but hadn’t seen for ages for lunch and then in the evening went out with my flatmate Su to see The Phantom of the Opera!!!! It was such a good show and the scenery and costumes were incredible πŸ™‚

On the 17th I went out for dinner with my two flatmates Poon and Su to a restaurant called Roti King which was so nice because it isΒ malaysian and singaporean street food which I had never tried before but it was absolutely delicious πŸ™‚

I woke up on the 18th and decided to make chocolate brownies because it is my Dad’s birthday on the 20th of May, after making the brownies my flat decided to take a flat photo because we did not have a flat photo yet despite living together for three years πŸ™‚ I then decided to make a Thai fried prawn and pineapple rice dish as one of my two new meals which was so nice ❀

On the weekend of the 19th I went home for my dad’s birthday which was really fun because I surprised him by going home as he thought I had to stay in London to work πŸ™‚ I got to see my dog which was really nice and the whole family went out for food, chilled and had a laugh πŸ™‚

The day I came back to London I started work on my Dissertation and then decided to make chicken tacos which were so delicious and were my second new meal πŸ™‚

Between the 22nd and the 29th I was mainly working on my dissertation which was really stressful and then finally gave it in on the 29th ❀

The last few days of May were spent going to GBK on the 30th and then making salmon and scrambled eggs on toast for lunch on the 31st and then Poon made Mac and Cheese for dinner on the 31stΒ  πŸ™‚

Let me know in the comments what you guys got up to for the end of the month of May πŸ™‚

Zoo Academy

Zoo Academy

In 2014/15 I did an eight day course at London Zoo called Zoo Academy where I got to interact with some of the animals, learn lots of new skills involved in Animal Welfare and Behaviour and I also learnt lots of new information about the vast number of interesting species they house at London Zoo πŸ™‚ The first week focused on Invertebrates and we got to clean out some of the invertebrates from the BUG house at London Zoo including giant cockroaches, millipedes and Large Snails πŸ™‚ The next week was focused on Reptiles so we got to say hello to some of the reptiles and got the opportunity to handle one of the snakes and feed the Giant Galapogos Tortoises which was so cool! One of the Giant Galapogos tortoises rested its head on my knee and my heart melted πŸ™‚ Some of the other Practical tasks during the eight weeks included cleaning out the reindeer enclosure, meeting the penguins and cleaning them out,Β preparing food for a variety of species, making enrichment for carnivores and completing a behaviour study of squirrel monkeys. It was such a fun experience being able to do this course because although I have been to lots of zoos before it was so interesting seeing behind the scenes of Wild animal care and also learning about the conservation of some very endangered species πŸ™‚

Let me know in the comments if you have ever been to London Zoo before and what your favourite wild animal species is πŸ™‚

Don’t judge a book by its cover

Don’t judge a book by its cover

A little while ago I realised that although I have spoken about my university experience on this blog I have never spoken about my course or what I am actually studying at University. I am currently a third year University student studying BioVeterinary Science in London. By looking through my blog you probably wouldn’t have guessed that because my blog is quite beauty related and I come across as a girly girl which I am but I also love going to farms or helping out at a stables and getting stuck in. I have done lambing placements, worked at a zoo, helped out at a dairy farm and have cleaned up after too many animals to count. People have many different sides to them and this is one of mine so I thought it might be kind of cool ifΒ  once a month I wrote a blog post about my experiences working with animals and about my course.

Let me know in the comments if you like the idea of a monthly blog post about my university course and tell me something about yourselves that would surprise people πŸ™‚
