July-ving and thriving Day 22: Ranking Live Musicals/Movie Musicals :)

During Lockdown and especially since Hamilton arrived on Disney + at the start of July I have been watching a lot of Musical films so I thought that I would rank them using the God Tier, Top Tier, Mid Tier and Awful tier ranking 🙂

God Tier: Hamilton on Disney +, The Greatest Showman, Rent + Rent Live, Grease Live, Hairspray Live, Les Mis, Jesus Christ Superstar Live, West Side Story, Mamma Mia, Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, Newsies, Dreamgirls

Top Tier: The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Singing in the Rain. LaLaLand, Into the Woods, The Wizard of Oz, Annie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Funny Girl

Mid Tier: A Star is Born, The King and I

Awful Tier:

The are quite a few old school movie musicals that I haven’t seen such as Cabaret, My Fair Lady, An American in Paris, Chicago and Moulin Rouge and there are a few movie musicals coming out soon that I am so excited for including In The Heights and The Prom 🙂 I also haven’t included cats in this list because I haven’t seen it yet.

Let me know in the comments if there are any that are missing / if there are any that you would move around 🙂

  1. Well, some of these I would move, and some would remain.

I do not like Jesus Christ Superstar, really not the biggest fan of Hamilton. So those are moving.

There are a LOT of musicals that would be in that God tier meaning I love a lot so ranking can get difficult. I am not that good when it comes to ranking.

I think I will use the meaningful musicals for the top: Les Mis, Wicked, Sound of Music, Annie, Phantom of the Opera, Rent- both stage show and the Final Broadway cast film, Newsies, Aladdin, Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Greatest Showman- just for now

These here I still love: South Pacific, Oklahoma, Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, Music Man, Mamma Mia, Singing in the Rain, My Fair Lady, Oliver, Man of La Mancha, Pippin, Godspell, Joesph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Just ones I like to some degree: West Side Story

The ones I just don’t like: Jesus Christ Superstar, Porgy and Bess, Addams Family, Love Never Dies, Hamilton, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd (yes never saw it, but know it is not the musical for me).

Here are some I still really want to see: Anastasia, Something Rotten, Once, Stage show of Frozen. Two got postponed this year, but still don’t know when they will come back to Blumenthal: Anastasia and Frozen. Next year, October 2021, Blumenthal will get Hadestown
