Mexico 2017

On the 27th of June my family and I flew to Mexico for the third time πŸ™‚ We have been to Mexico for the past 2 summers and have loved it so much that we decided to return for a third year running- this time it was my mum, my dad, my middle brother, his girlfriend and I. The flight is around 9 hours and on the way to Cancun we had a very dramatic flight! One female passenger was beating up her boyfriend so they had to be separated and then someone else was smoking in the toilets!!! I think I speak for everyone on the plane when I say that we were very relived when we landed safely in Cancun. After our flight landed we grabbed our bags, went to the hotel, unpacked and grabbed a nice dinner at a Japanese restaurant- we were transported to the dinner in a golf buggy which was a really surreal experience!

The next three days were spent by the pool reading, eating and just generally being really lazy which was absolute bliss πŸ™‚ We packed some pool floaties including a unicorn, a pizza and a donut which had been given to us on Birthdays and Christmas the past year so ofc we had to try them out and if I do say so myself they were pretty epic!Β

Last summer whilst in Mexico my dad really wanted to go swimming with Whale Sharks but because no-one else wanted to go with him he decided not to go, this year he was determined to go and dragged us all along. Whale sharks can be up to 12.65m so even though they only eat plankton I was absolutely terrified!! We were allowed to jump into the water twice and had to try and keep up with the whale shark but they are so fast that that was nearly impossible- on my second jump the whale shark was swimming right underneath my mum and I and was so close that we could have touched it which was such an AMAZING experience and although I was terrified I am so glad that I overcame my fear so thanks Mum and Dad for dragging me along! :p

We had one more day of relaxing by the pool at our first hotel on the Sunday which was mainly spent in the cabana because we had all gotten sunburnt the day before because we were not allowed to wear suncream whilst swimming with the whale sharks.

On our final day at the Paradisus hotel we actually went on an excursion to Chichen Itza which is one of the new seven wonders of the world- we went to Chichen Itza two years ago but because my brothers girlfriend hadn’t been and really wanted to we thought that we would all go πŸ™‚

After going round the ruins and soaking in the atmosphere we all boarded back onto a minibus and headed to a cenote for lunch and to have a swim because around the Chichen Itza area it is so hot that it was so nice to get in the cold water and cool off πŸ™‚ After the cenote we headed to the Paradisus to collect our bags, grabbed a taxi and went to our second hotel which was the secrets in Akumal.

Our first full day at the Secrets hotel was also my 20th Birthday!! I woke up to lots of lovely birthday messages from my friends and then we went down to breakfast for birthday mimosas and to decide what we wanted to do for the day. We decided that we would spend the day by the beach sunbathing and swimming in the sea as at this particular beach you were able to snorkel with the turtles!!!

After spending the day snorkelling with turtles we headed to Himitsu because we had booked a teppanyaki table for that evening πŸ™‚ The food was incredible and it was an experience I will never forget πŸ™‚ I went to bed that evening with a massive smile on my face πŸ™‚

The 5th of July was spent alternating between the pool and the beach as was the 7th although at this hotel we decided not to bring our floaties to the pool as the pool we tended to be in was meant to be a quiet pool πŸ™‚

In between our pool/beach days we decided to head to some other mayan ruins called Talum- we saw these ruins last year but didn’t get a lot of time to spend looking round as we were on a tour and because it was so close to our hotel we decided to get a taxi to the ruins and explore for ourselves πŸ™‚ We wandered around reading all about the ancient mayan culture and then went to the beach to cool down πŸ™‚

The 8th of July was our last day which we were all very sad about because none of us wanted to leave 😦 The flight home was a lot less dramatic and by the morning of the 9th of July we were back in England- slightly more tanned than when we left but exhausted because we had a night flight on the way back and I unfortunately cannot sleep on planes.

Let me know in the comments whether you have been to Mexico before and if you liked it or if this post has made you want to go πŸ™‚

xxxxxxxxxx
